On March 14 at 3 pm, the campus community is invited to MacLauchlan Arena (Rink A) at the Bell Aliant Centre to watch faculty and staff take on the UPEI Women's Hockey Panthers in a fun fundraising game.

Duy Anh Nguyen, a Master of Science student in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Trung Dung Ngo, professor of robotics and intelligent systems, received the Best Student Paper Award during the 16th IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration.

Dr. Marya Ahmed, associate professor of chemistry at UPEI, has received a total of $180,000 for a project to improve the prolonged storage of human tissues and genetic material.

Vagabond Productions will present Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory from March 13–16, 2024, in the theatre in the UPEI Performing Arts Centre. The doors open at 7:00 pm for a 7:30 pm curtain. Admission is “pay-what-you-can.”

Tara MacLean, renowned PEI singer-songwriter and author of the best-selling memoir, Song of the Sparrow, will give a talk and read from her memoir in conversation with Dr. Richard Lemm, professor of English, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 7:00 pm in the UPEI Performing Arts Centre. She will also lead a memoir writing workshop, “Writing with Ghosts—A Guide to Excavating Memories,” on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 9:30 am–1:30 pm in SDU Main Building, Room 213, on the UPEI campus.

The UPEI Department of Music will celebrate Canadian women composers at a faculty recital on International Women’s Day—March 8—at 7:30 pm on the SDU Stage, Dr. Steel Recital Hall.

UPEI has a unique opportunity and duty as the provincial university to be part of the long-term solution to improve the current health-care system. Twenty undergraduate medical learners will begin their studies at UPEI in August 2025 as part of a regional campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Faculty of Medicine. The timeline for this initiative mirrors that of other regional campuses being developed across the country.

In a message issued on March 5, Shannon MacDonald, chair of the UPEI Board of Governors, invited the campus community to attend upcoming fireside chats with the finalist candidates for the UPEI presidential search.

| Athletics

UPEI Track and Field competitor Alaere Peterside will compete in the U SPORTS Track and Field Championship this weekend in Winnipeg. The championship is being hosted by the University of Manitoba at the James Daly Fieldhouse from March 7–9, 2024.
