The UPEI Environmental Studies program is hosting the Science Atlantic Environment conference from March 22 to 24 at the University’s Charlottetown campus.

Dr. Xander Wang, an associate professor with the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, has been awarded a total of $1.6 million to investigate ways to protect PEI from coastal erosion and to build Island communities’ resilience to climate change.

Dr. David Cairns, scientist emeritus with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, will give a lecture titled “The Biogeography of North Atlantic Islands” on March 26 at 7 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, UPEI.

Dr. Yulin Hu, an assistant professor in the UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, has received funding to establish a new Atlantic Zero-Emission Energy System Laboratory (AZEESL) that will produce clean and sustainable fuels and materials from biowaste.

At a special meeting on March 13, the UPEI Board of Governors approved an increase to the tuition deposit for new international undergraduate students (including DVM and BEd), which has now also been made refundable, to help ensure that applicants are committed to coming to UPEI.

The University of Prince Edward Island has been awarded two new Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs, and a current Tier 2 Canada Research Chair has been renewed, all for five-year terms.
