Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Prince Edward Island, announced today that four exceptional leaders in their respective fields will be awarded honorary Doctor of Laws degrees at Convocation ceremonies on May 13, 2017. Honorary degrees will be conferred upon Indigenous leader and Elder Ms. Judith Clark of York, PEI; business and community leader Mr. Stan MacPherson of Charlottetown; UPEI past-president and professor emeritus Dr. Elizabeth Epperly of Wolfville, Nova Scotia; and SDU alumnus and business owner Mr. Allan Curran of Bay Shore, New York.

UPEI’s Faculty of Business will hold an information session for those interested in its Executive MBA program. The event will be Wednesday, April 5 at 5:00 pm at The Gallery in The Guild in Charlottetown.

The Government of Canada has made a more than $51 million investment in research equipment across the country through the most recent round of the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF). Among the projects supported is one led by Dr. Adam Johnston, an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Human Sciences at UPEI.

The next Island Studies Lecture is Tuesday, March 14, at 7:00 pm in the Faculty Lounge of UPEI’s SDU Main Building. Dr. Peter Buker will speak about scale and governance, including its effects on small islands such as Prince Edward Island.

Two UPEI students are attending the Daughters of the Vote National Leadership Forum that will mark the 100th anniversary of the first Canadian women attaining the right to vote. One young woman from every federal constituency in Canada was selected to represent her community and share her vision for Canada.
